Our concert at All Saints Church in Writtle started off with the Police Band playing a rendition of Knights Templar - a rousing march. CMVC followed this up with Anthem and You'll never Walk Alone. The concert continued with CMVC and Essex Police Band taking turns to entertain the audience, with Paul (MD of CMVC) and Dave (MD of EPB) giving some information about each piece.. The concert finished with a joint number - cwm rhondda, conducted by Dave Rowland - the band master of Essex Police Band. It was a bit of a squeeze with both groups - with CMVC performing from the pews, but the pieces were well received by the audience. We would like to thank the audience for supporting us. Our next concert will be a Christmas themed one on 14th December, at Trinity Methodist Church and we are delighted to welcome Selion Swing Band who are joining us. |
We were delighted to be asked to support Chelmsford's Heritage Day this year. The theme was the 1940s and the public were entertained by dancers and singers and were able to talk to people about the vintage buses, trucks and motorbikes.

Wow - what a concert we had on the hottest day of the year so far. The audience braved the heat to be entertained by two choirs with very different styles. Men2Sing, with Musical Director John Trent Wallace and Accompanist Clare Benson delighted the audience with their renditions of pieces such as I'm Still Standing, Walking On The Moon and Take Me Home, Country Roads. These were sung to backing tracks supported by Clare on the keyboard. They also treated us to a lovely arrangement of The Lord's Prayer which was accompanied by Clare. Chelmsford Male Voice Choir, with Musical Director Paul Smith and accompanist Sue Edwards delighted the audience with favourites such as Ave Maria, Nothing Like A Dame and American Trilogy. The audience were also treated to two songs sung by both choirs: Gwahoddiad, conducted by Paul and Bui Doi, conducted by John. It was a fabulous evening and we hope that we will be able to join together for another concert. Many thanks as always to our audience for supporting us, our front of house team and everyone who helped behind the scenes. We would also like to thank the Deputy Mayor and her Consort for taking the time to attend the concert as well - very much appreciated. Please do check on each choir's website for details of forthcoming concerts and we hope to see you again very soon. |
A message from Farleigh Hospice:
Thank you to our fundraising team, volunteers and performers who braved the hideous weather last Saturday to support our city-centre street collection. We were delighted to welcome Mayor of Chelmsford, The Mayoress, Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor Consort of Chelmsford, who helped with the collection. Despite the lashing rain, we were able to raise a wonderful £1,663.68. Thank you to everyone who donated and thank you to the following organisations who supported the event on the day: High Chelmer, Meadows Shopping Centre, Chelmsford, Bond Street Chelmsford, Chelmsford City Council, Essex Dance Theatre, Chelmsford Male Voice Choir, Farleigh Community Choir, Don't Shout Out - BSL and Funky Voices - we couldn't have done it without you? Thank you to all those people who stopped to listen to us and also donated to this worthy cause. A special mention to the kind lady who bought the choir some much appreciated refreshments. You can next hear us on Friday 19th July when we join forces with Men2Sing. |
We were delighted to have been invited to attend the Great Waltham Festival of Choirs. 'The Festival of Choirs in Great Waltham Church was nothing short of a triumph. The choirs sang individually and collectively with great confidence and spirit with every rendition met with rapturous applause. Among the choirs on show were the Village Choir and, a particular delight for a packed audience, a choir from the Village School who, from their beaming smiles and excitement, clearly had an unforgettable evening.' Chelmsford Male Voice Choir not only sang in their own right, but also joined with Great Waltham Village Choir to sing an unforgettable rendition of Can You Feel The Love Tonight, which went down really well with the audience and GWVC have already asked when they can sing again with CMVC. The community song at the end - As Long As I Have Music was fantastic and was sung by all choirs that participated in the evening. A good choice of song that turned out to be quite emotional with 100 voices singing together. You will hear us next at High Chelmer Shopping Centre on Saturday 15th June from 12.00 pm - 2.00pm as we support Farleigh Hospice. The next concert is on 19th July when Men2Sing will be our guests. Tickets are available now from our website. |
We were delighted to be asked to perform at this year's Colne Engaine Festival. We sang a range of songs to an appreciative audience. It was an interesting day weatherwise - brilliant sunshine one moment and then torrential rain the next. There was a range of entertainment during the festival - from brass bands and Morris Men to Station 366 singing songs from the 1940s and much more. Our next performance is on Friday 7th June at the Great Waltham Festival of Choirs. |
Some of our worthy recipients of badges for long term membership of the choir - 10 years, 15 years, and 25+ years - presented by our president at our AGM.
One of our members was awarded a special platinum award to commemorate 50 years in the choir.
Congratulations to all.

The concert was fantastic and very well suppported. A full range of songs, with CMVC singing, amongst others, Morte Christe and Ave Maria and LOMVC entertaining us with renditions, amongst others, with Love Is All Around and With A Voice Of Singing. The highlights of the concert were the two joint pieces - Rhythm Of Life and the male voice choir favourite: Gwahoddiad. Many thanks to LOMVC for hosting and looking after us so well. A beautiful venue to sing at. We are looking forward to joining together again. Watch this space!

During 2023 we decided to fundraise for Essex Dementia Care, holding retiring collections at our concerts. This charity is very dear to us as some of our members, friends and supporters have succumbed to this awful disease. Singing is one activity that supports people with dementia as it can unlock memories and reach parts of the brain which other forms of communication cannot. We are delighted to announce that £550 was raised for Essex Dementia Care and a cheque was presented to a representativefrom the charity last week. A huge thank you to everyone who donated at our concerts to this very worthy cause. Essex Dementia Care was founded in 2006 and has helped countless people with dementia to maintain an active and social lifestyle. If you would like to know more about the work they do, please head over to their website: essexdementiacare.org.uk |

We were delighted to be asked to perform to the Welsh Society on Wednesday. The choir sang a range of songs in the first half which included Christmas numbers, and songs in Welsh and Latin. The audience enjoyed the different tunes to While Shepherds Watch and The First Noel. In the second half, the audience were taught the arrangement of While Shepherds Watch and then joined in with some favourite carols. Thank you to the Welsh Society for inviting the choir to join them. |
We had a fantastic concert on Friday when we shared the stage with members of Trinity Methodist and Drama group. The audience were treated to a range of entertainment - from songs and carols to poems and prose. The audience joined in with the carols with such gusto - we are sure that there were some potential members in the audience ? Unfortunately there were some scarves and hats left in the church at the end - if you recognise them, please contact us so that we can return them. |

We were delighted to be asked by Farleigh Hospice to support them in their fundraising day today. We set up in High Chelmer at lunctime, ready to entertain the shoppers. We sang a rang of music, from Christmas songs to carols, music from musicals and traditional male voice choir pieces such as Men of Harlech. A great number of shoppers stopped to listen and show their appreciation which was gratefully received. The gentlemen love to sing and share their music with an audience, so hopefully all were entertained. It was lovely to see some familiar faces in the audience. Many thanks to those behind the scenes that helped to set up, including the wives and partners who made sure we had leaflets and flyers galore. If you missed us today, then our next concert is on 15th December at Trinity Methodist Church when we are sharing the stage with memebrs of Trinity Methodist Music and Drama group. Tickets are £10 and are available from this website, as well as choir members. And ladies - if you wish for a few hours peace on a Tuesday evening, we would love to take care of your gentleman. We rehearse on a Tuesday evening from 7.30 - 9.15pm and all gentlemen are welcome. |
We held a very successful concert at the Parish Church of St. John The Baptist in Danbury on 21st October. Along with Chelmsford Male Voice Choir entertaining the audience with their range of songs, the public also welcomed our special guests; Pedro Lopes and Kristie Fisk who are two thirds of Triple Fuse. The choir sang favourites such as: Oh When the Saints, The Peacemaker, Guardian Angel, American Trilogy and shared some new pieces, such as Cantate, which was well received. Pedro and Kristie sang a mixture of solos and duets, featuring All I Ask Of You, Nessun Dorma, The Prayer and As Long As He Needs Me. The concert finished with an encore entitled Amore Ti Vieta, featuring Pedro as soloist, accompanied by the choir. Many thanks to the church congregation who made us feel very welcome. Some of our choir look forward to joining you in your Christmas Concert. |
We would like to draw your attention to two events that are coming up in December. On 2nd December, we have been invited to join Farleigh Hospice with their fundraising event. Chelmsford Male Voice Choir invited the Mayor and her Consort to attend their Autumn Extravaganza at Trinity Methodist Church with special guest Leigh Orpheus Male Voice Choir and Soprano, Anna Maria. They thoroughly enjoyed listening to the talented singers and enjoyed the varied selection of music which included some popular musical theatre numbers as well as more traditional Welsh hymns and a sea shanty. After the concert there was a retiring collection on behalf of Essex Dementia Care, CMVC's Charity of the year, and they thanked the concert-goers for their generosity to benefit this worthy charity. |
Well - what can I say - it was a fabulous evening yesterday. Our packed audience were treated to some wonderful music by ourselves, Leigh Orpheus Male Voice Choir and soloist Anna Maria. We were also delighted that the Mayor of Chelmsford and her Consort were able to join our audience and share in the wonderful music. Thank you Madam Mayor for your kind words. Concerts cannot take part without out all our 'behind the scenes' people, so a thank you to them - from our ladies welcoming our audience to our gentlemen, making sure that all choristers had a seat and were able to see the Musical Directors. The concert began with CMVC, under the lead of Paul Smith, with 'The Peacemakers' - a beautiful piece, loved by choirs. Waldo Williams wrote the poem Y Tangnefeddwyr during the second world war. He recalls the care his parents showed for him as he is witness to a night of bombing in Swansea, seeing the city in flames from the distance of the Preselis. The poem is a plea for peace by the poet who was also a Quaker who gave his gift for poetry in service to the campaign to keep the Preseli hills themselves free from military presence in the aftermath of the war. Further songs included, 'Bring Him Home', 'Homeward Bound' and 'Cantate'. Dennis Mason also gave his first solo performance with 'The Working Man', accompanied by the choir. Anna Maria shared two songs with us - 'Over The Rainbow' and then she accompanied herself on the guitar for 'Downtown'. A beautiful voice and a lovely contrast to the gentlemen. If you get a chance to go and see her perform at a local venue, then please do - you will not be disappointed. Following that we welcomed Leigh Orpheus Male Voice Choir with their Musical Director Janet Walker, and their accompanist, Kay Duell. We were treated to some Frank Sinatra Songs - New York New York, and Fly Me To The Moon as well as a range of other songs. The first half ended with the joint choirs singing 'Softly, As I Leave You', conducted by Paul. In the second half, our visiting choir delighted us with some songs sung in Maouri and Zulu, amongst others. Anna Maria then sang 'Memory' from Cats and was joined by Rob Little in a duet 'The Prayer'. Chelmsford finished off the second half with favourites such as 'The Drinking Song', performed by Patrick Tucker and Rob Little, and 'Men Of Harlech'. The concert was concluded with another piece by the joint choirs - 'An American Trilogy' - this time under the Musical Direction of Janet. Thank you to all who supported us, and also gave generously to Chelmsford Male Voice Choir's Charity of the year - Essex Dementia Care. Our next concert is at Danbury Church on 21st October, when we are delighted to welcome Pedro and Friends as our special guests. Tickets are available now from our website. |
Having had a few weeks break, it is now time to look forward to what the Autumn Term brings to Chelmsford Male Voice Choir. First on the Agenda is to know when we are resuming rehearsals. This will be on the 22nd August 2023. If you ever fancied trying something new, why not pay us a visit. We rehearse on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm at Trinity Methodist Church, Chelmsford. We have 3 concerts to look forward to this term. The first is An Autumn Extravaganza where CMVC are sharing a concert with a guest soloist, Anna Maria, and another Male Voice Choir - Leigh Orpheus. This choir had a concert planned but were let down by their venue, so CMVC reached out to them and invited them to join our concert on 30th September. This, they were delighted to do. CMVC are looking forward to singing some joint pieces with them. A concert not to miss. Tickets are £10 and are available to purchase from our website and also any choir member. We then move to Danbury on 21st October where The Parish Church of St John the Baptist are welcoming us. We did have a concert planned there in April 2020, but had to cancel this due to Covid restrictions. The church is very much looking forward to hosting us and we are thrilled to have Pedro Lopes as our guest soloist. For those of you who have followed our choir, you will remember Pedro. For those new to us, Pedro is an opera singer who has performed all over the world. He was a choir member for a number of years and enjoyed singing solos and performing with the choir. Again, tickets are £10. Our last concert for the term will be a Christmas Concert on 15th December, again at Trinity Methodist Church. This time we will be joined by members of Trinity Methodist Music and Drama group. we are very much looking forward to sharing a concert with this talented group. If you would like to see them perform in their own right, they are performing a concert entitled "A Night At The Movies' on 6th and 7th October 2023. This is then followed by a production of My Fair Lady in May 2024. We hope to see you at one (or all) of our forthcoming concerts. We will also be singing in High Chelmer later in the year, so watch out for more details. Merchandise is also now available, so you can support CMVC with pens, keyrings or mugs. Other merchandise may follow, so keep an eye out on the website or our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ChelmsfordMVC/ for more information. |
We had a fantastic concert last night which was really appreciated by the audience. We sang a wide range of genres from musicals to opera and everything else in between. We enjoyed many solos from our guest soloist, Steph Wilson, and also from some of the gentlemen of the choir: Rob Little and Patrick Tucker. Many thanks to our FOH team who not only checked your tickets but served you with refreshments and highlighted our new merchandise - currently mugs and pens. Thank you also to those who helped behind the scenes - always too many to mention. The gentlemen were proud to wear their new summer uniform and show off their new folders which were sponsored by Margaret Cox - our long standing president. Thank you Margaret, they are great. Many thanks if you attended last night and we hope you enjoyed it and are looking forward to our next concert on 30th September 2023 at Trinity Methodist Church. |
